Core Certification

How do I become Core Certified?​

You can acquire a Core Certification by passing the Core Certification Test or by attending certain Ignition Core courses and completing the labwork requirements. The course schedule can be found on the Inductive Automation website: https://inductiveautomation.com/training/.

The Core Certification Test requires knowledge of all of the fundamentals of designing with Ignition, as well as a basic understanding of databases, SQL, and Python scripting. More information about the Core test content can be found in the nested Study Guide.

What is the Core Certification Test like?​

The Core Certification Test is an online, autograded Ignition exam with both multiple choice and short answer questions, spread out over 9 different sections by topic. The test must be completed within 30 days of purchase. The maximum amount of time you can spend taking the test is 25 hours, though the average time to complete the test is under 10 hours. Once all sections of the test are completed you will receive an email with your results.

The email with your results will tell you which sections you passed and which you failed. A passing score of 75% is required for each section, but how many questions can be missed varies between sections. If you do not pass, you can purchase another attempt, though we strongly recommend reviewing the Study Guide and related resources to review the sections that did not pass. Once the test is given a passing grade you will receive a certificate via email.

If you close your browser while a section is in progress, you can come back to the test from the link in the email and continue where you left off. Each of the 9 sections has its own time limit, which varies depending on the section, and ranges between 2 and 4 hours. Please note that closing your test will not stop the timer for that section. Once you begin a section of the test you must complete that section before moving on to another. Once an individual section of the test is completed it cannot be further modified. Sections do not need to be started or completed the same day, as long as all sections are completed within the 30 days. You can complete the sections in any order.
