Gold Test FAQ and Troubleshooting

General Questions​

How is the test graded and how do I see the results?​

How long does the test take to complete?​

The Gold test can take up to 40 hours. However, it can often be completed in a shorter amount of time, depending on individual pace and familiarity with the material.

How long do I have to complete the Gold test? Can I get a test deadline extension?​

You will have six months to complete the Gold test from the time the test is purchased. You will receive periodic reminder emails sent to the email address used to purchase the test. Because of the long expiration date given, the Gold test deadline cannot be extended.

What Edition/Version/Modules of Ignition can be used for the test?​

The test instructions specify to use Ignition 8.1.45 or newer release of Ignition 8.1 Standard Edition installed on the computer you are taking the test on. Ignition editions other than Standard (i.e., Maker, Cloud, and Edge) cannot be used for IA certification tests. Also, the use of Ignition 8.3 is not allowed for IA certification tests at this time.

During the test, Ignition can be either licensed or running in the free Trial Period. Ignition should only have installed the modules included by the default (typical) installation. The test instructions will include restoring an Ignition Gateway Backup that will add additional configurations and resources.

Is the use of AI Tools allowed while taking the Gold Certification test?​

No, AI-enabled tools, including AI chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, etc.), are not permitted to be used for completing IA certification tests.

Do I need to re-take the Core test before re-taking the Gold test?​

If both your Gold and Core certifications have expired, you do not need to re-take the Core test before re-taking the Gold test. Once you are Gold-certified you only need to recertify on the Gold test. If you have never achieved Gold certification, you must have an active (unexpired) Core certification before you can take the Gold test.

How many attempts do I get to pass the Gold test?​

Only one attempt is allowed per purchase to pass the Gold certification test.

In what languages is the Gold test available?​

The Gold test is currently only available in US English.

Troubleshooting​

I am not receiving emails after purchasing or after completing the test.​

All emails will come from training@inductiveautomation.com. If you are not receiving emails related to the test please email training@inductiveautomation.com directly. You will receive your test results after they are graded, which can take up to a month.

I am not able to install the database.​

I cannot load the .sql file.​

Make sure you have SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) installed. Once it's installed, you can either drag and drop the .sql file into SSMS, or open a new query window and copy-paste the contents of the file into it. Then, execute the script to run the SQL commands.
